Gamer The Movie Review… D For Disgusting

Gamer The Movie

Gamer The Movie

I was really excited to see the movie “Gamer”.  The previews looked cool.  I liked the premise.  One thing I didn’t count on–that it would be the most vile thing I have ever seen.

Right off the bat I had a bad feeling.  The violence was a little more vulgar than I was hoping.  But it wasn’t the violence that shocked me.  About ten minutes in (after the “game” was explained), you learned about another game.  It was a game based on the idea of the “Sims.”  The only difference is that the “Sims” in this game were real people, controlled by other real people.  The sexual content and character displays were shocking, disgusting, vulgar, and very upsetting.  I didn’t expect this movie to have any sexual content at all.

We lasted about 15 to 20 minutes.  After about 10 I knew we wouldn’t stay, but I didn’t want to be the first one to leave since it had been my idea to see this movie.  But then the people behind us got up and left.  Then a member of my group got up and left.  That’s when I turned to the others and said I was leaving.  That’s when we all got up and left.

I still cannot believe how disgusting and vile this movie was (and I barely saw any of it).  I felt so defiled after (and still do hours later).  The R rating it was given does not give the movie justice.  It should have been NC-17 or worse.

If you are considering going to this movie, I highly suggest that you change your mind.  It is not worth the money, the time, or the innocence you will lose.

I had no desire to see this movie…until I read your review. Now I’m dying to know what you found so horrific!

oh dave…

i hope my explanation helped. I actually thought the idea was really good (as we discussed at Grandma’s today). I just wish it hadn’t been so completely vulgar, vile, and disgusting. I think it could have spawned some great discussion and led people to look at media and gaming and how we have the habit of turning ourselves over to whoever writes the story, allowing them to drag us through whatever gutter they enjoy.

Wow…interesting. In the previews you would never think that it would be like that. It looked like it would be a good movie, but after what you just said about it…yeah I think I will spend that $10 on something else. Thanks!

Hey man thanks for your review, it was 20 minutes into the movie when me and my wife just got up and left. I didn’t have a good feeling about it to begin with and I just had this empty feeling inside while I was watching it. The Violence was over the top and wasn’t very tasteful.

Hey thanks for sharing Keven. Sounds like we had the same experience.

Thanks Manzac! That is exactly when I decided I couldn’t handle it anymore. Seriously vulgar and disgusting.
