9/11 Tribute Videos. Where I was. Where were you?

by Jon Pinney on September 11, 2009

Since it is now officially the 8th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on 9/11, I decided I would include a Tribute post.  I started looking through YouTube to find appropriate videos and soon found myself crying, in shock, in awe, and biting my nails as I waited to see again the second collision.  Knowing it would happen only made it worse.

On 9/11/2001 I was serving a mission for my church in the Dominican Republic.  I remember exactly where I was when I found out something had happened in America.  My companion and I couldn’t get good information until we went to a member’s house and turned on CNN.  That’s when I saw what had happened.  We watched and rewatched the footage over and over.  It was surreal.  I wish I could’ve been here in America when it happened.  I’ve been told that American Flags were displayed everywhere and that the Nation was completely United.

I was only going to include one video, but I couldn’t find just one that had everything I wanted to share.  So, I’ve included many.  Watch whichever ones you want, just make sure and remember.

If you can, please leave a comment with where you were and what you were doing that day.  You can include any feelings you had as well.

Thanks for taking the time to post all of those videos, Jon! How could you not remember where you were on this day. I was arriving to work shortly after the news broke. Usually the only sound you could hear was keyboard strokes, but there were radios everywhere and headphones not being used. The whole thing was just shocking.
First thing I wanted to talk to my mom who was supposed to be taking a flight home from Utah with my grandma. They ended up renting a vehicle to drive back. It was difficult to focus on work when the whole day you are just wondering what terrible news will break next.
My brothers joined me at my parents’ house that night, and we watched the news for what seemed like forever, emotions running high. Finally enough was enough. Now every time I watch Smallville, I think of 9/11 because that’s how we coped. The 3 of us huddled together and focused our minds on the series premiere of Smallville as an escape.
It’s amazing how watching the footage again takes you right back to your feelings of that horrific day. Makes me glad though that our country united and came out of it stronger. For a long time after, families in America had their priorities straight. Peeps can bag on Bush all they want, but for me he goes down as a hero for the way he handled all of this so early on in his presidency.
