What I’ve been up to lately

by Jon Pinney on October 23, 2013

It’s been a few months since I last posted, so I figured I would post an update on the different projects I’ve been working on and different experiences I’ve had in New York City.

Since being in New York I’ve participated in a few short films, a few photo shoots, modeled for a painter, and written a bunch of new music.

I’ve also been working in production with Discovery Agency on a few shows for Discovery and Animal Planet.  That has been awesome and a ton of fun. I’ve met a lot of people and been able to see what TV is like from the inside.

I’ve also continued working on internet marketing projects, primarily for HomeShield Pest Control.  This has been a lot of fun, trying to figure out how to make their site (http://www.homeshieldpestcontrol.com) rank higher in the Sacramento area for pest control keywords.

Other things I’ve done include lots of site seeing (museums, parks, bridges, and sites), lots of eating (pizza, burgers, desserts, oh my!), and lots of Broadway shows (over 20 since I moved here… almost 1 a week).

I’ve also been studying how to tell stories.  I’ve read Screenplay, Save the Cat, and Story, and watched about 30 movies.  I’ve also been working on a couple screenplay ideas and writing a musical.  Writing stories (screenplays and musicals specifically) is a lot harder than I thought, but has similar parallels to writing songs, so I’m excited to see how I can apply my skills in this new area.

So all in all I’ve been having a great time trying to figure out what I want to do next in my life (by doing a lot of really cool things) and what industry I want to focus on.  As you can tell, most of the options have to do with some creative field where hopefully I can be creative or participate in someone else’s creations.
