Diesel Kick Ass Video Ad

by Jon Pinney on September 24, 2010

Ok so I had to post this.  It has got to be one of the most random (and hilarious) ads I have ever seen.  It made me slightly uncomfortable, especially towards the end, though I still laughed throughout the whole thing.  And I’m not really sure what it has to do with Diesel’s new shoes, but oh well… at least it’s getting them attention.  Enjoy!  :)

Florence + the Machine

by Jon Pinney on September 22, 2010

My new favorite artist:  Florence + the Machine.  I’m not actually sure if it’s a band or just a singer, but I do know that I love the album and style.

The first time I heard Florence + the Machine was from the Eclipse soundtrack.  She has a song called “Heavy In Your Arms” that was featured in that movie.  It’s pretty awesome–very emotional, powerful, and raw (plus great singing and pretty unique).  So I figured I’d try out the album Lungs, aptly named because the lead singer Florence Welch has a nice pair that’s very apparent in her singing.  As singing goes, she is amazing.

My favorite songs on the album are: #4 Howl; #2 Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up); and #7 Drumming Song.  Below are links to the videos for #2 and #7.  Also, if you get a chance, listen to #4 Howl in your car with the music blasting, windows rolled down, while driving really fast.  It’s a great feeling :)

Toy Story 3: Inception

by Jon Pinney on July 30, 2010

My intern just sent me a link to this awesome trailer… Toy Story 3: Inception!!!

It is a combination of trailers for both movies.  It’s pretty cool (and slightly freaky) to see how well they fit with each other :)

Enjoy!

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen!!!  No wonder our country is struggling so much.  With politicians like Hank Johnson (Democratic Congressman from Georgia’s 4th Congressional District) making the laws, they are bound to be super destructive to our nation.

On his website (I will not link to it… he doesn’t even deserve my visit from earlier), he said:  ”The subtle humor of this obviously metaphorical reference to a ship capsizing illustrated my concern about the impact of the planned military buildup on this small tropical island.”

Wow.  Which one of your paid writers wrote that for you?  If your speaking skills compare at all to your writing ability, then there’s no way you came up with that intelligent comment about your obviously inane and ridiculous comments about Guam capsizing.

Sorry, but I cannot give this a pass.

Normally I don’t care when politicians prove how stupid they are.  But with major legislation going through congress on a weekly basis (or so it seems), I can’t just sit by and let people screw over the nation I love, when they obviously aren’t bright enough to understand the effects of the legislation they are passing.

Next time you’re gonna ask a question, it might be a good idea to have your professional speech writers review it beforehand.

Hank Johnson, today you receive my award for Most Ridiculous Politician!   Wait, was this an April Fools joke?  (I bet he wishes it was).

Alice In Wonderland The Movie Review – F For Fun

by Jon Pinney on March 12, 2010

Alice In Wonderland Theatrical PosterTwo nights ago I went and saw the new Alice In Wonderland movie at the IMAX 3D in Sacramento.  While I mostly enjoyed the experience and the movie, I don’t think I’d actually score the movie very well.

In fact, while I’d say it was fun and amusing, I’d also say that that the IMAX was distracting, the acting was only mediocre, and the story was a little dull.

Johnny Depp, who played the mad hatter, was mostly a bore.  His characters of late all remind me of each other, and it would have been much more exciting for me to see Tom Cruise or Morgan Freeman play this role.  At least that would’ve been something new.

Anne Hathaway, who played the White Queen, was by far the worst casting decision in the entire film.  Besides the fact that her makeup looked horrible, her acting was shallow and unbelievable and her character was unlikeable.  Every time she was on screen I cringed.

Helena Bonham Carter, admittedly one of my favorite all-time actresses, did a great job as the queen, though her oversized head was almost too distracting.

The star of the show, Alice (played by Mia Wasikowska), was the single breath of fresh air in the entire film.  Her character, looks, and acting were the main reason I enjoyed this movie.

Overall, I’d say this movie is worth seeing.  Though, if I had it to do over again, I would not have watched it in IMAX 3D.  And if you’d told me I couldn’t see it till it came out on DVD, I don’t think I’d complain.

Avatar The Movie Review – S For Spectacular

by Jon Pinney on January 22, 2010

Avatar The MovieWell, if you haven’t seen it yet, you’re one of the few.  Avatar the movie (directed by James Cameron) has already grossed more than any other film in box office history other than Titanic, Cameron’s other most successful movie to date.  At approx 1.7 billion dollars after only 1 month (go here to see current stats), Avatar is on pace to beat Titanic.

I saw it opening night (against my will) and again 2 days later.  I also saw it in IMAX 3D about a week ago.  It is one of the most visually stunning films I have ever seen – despite the fact that the majority of the visual elements in the film were computer generated.  And the creativity involved in this movie (from a visual and world-creation standpoint – characters, creatures, plants, etc.) is spectacular.

Sam Worthington plays the lead male role and performs admirably.  But the star of the show by far (in my opinion) is Zoe Saldana.  Her physical grace and emotional depth come across beautifully even through her CGI blue alien form.  Mention should also be made of the CGI experts that made blue skin not only attractive, but very real.

The only weak point in the film is the story, which follows other similar plots previously explored in Pocahontas and Fern Gully.  In my opinion, the story is told well enough with good enough special effects and acting that the unoriginal plot line doesn’t bother me.  In fact, I enjoyed it thoroughly.

In short, if you haven’t seen this film, I suggest you do.
